Descripción:
El profesor Fernando Pérez Cruz de la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid impartirá la conferencia.
Resumen de la conferencia:
Gaussian processes for machine learning are discriminative Bayesian nonlinear detection and estimation tools that provide point estimates and confidence intervals for their predictions. We specifically refer to Gaussian process for classification (GPC) for detection problems and Gaussian process for regression (GPR) for its estimation counterpart. In a way, they can be seen as the Bayesian counterpart to SVMs. In this talk, we will introduce GPR from the weight space view (linear regression) and show it can build Bayesian nonlinear regressors in closed form. We will then show they can be presented as a Gaussian process. Furthermore hyperparameters can be learnt by maximum likelihood, avoiding tedious cross-validation procedures. The extension to classification needs to rely on approximations or MCMC procedures and the solution is not as straightforward as the GPR case.
