- Short Bio Notes: Prof. Stefano Russo is Professor of Computer Engineering at the Federico II University of Naples, where he teaches Software Engineering and Distributed Systems, and leads the distributed and mobile systems MOBILAB research group (www.mobilab.unina.it). He co-authored over 140 papers in the areas of distributed software engineering; middleware technologies; software dependability; software aging; mobile computing. He is Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Services Computing.

- Software ages. Indeed, software products age over their lifetime, mainly due to maintenance; this is the software engineering perspective of the software aging phenomenons. Applications also age at run time; this is the software dependability perspective. In twenty years, research in the area has progressed in these two directions almost autonomously. I argue these two visions should be reconciled.

- «Model Driven Engineering of Critical Systems»
- Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) promises to enhance system development by reducing development time, and increasing productivity and quality. MDE is gaining popularity in several industry sectors, and is attractive also for critical systems where it can reduce efforts and costs for verification and validation (V&V), and can ease certification. Incorporating MDE techniques into a legacy well-proven development cycle is not simply a matter of placing models and transformations in the design and implementation phases. I present two experiences in industrial-academic partnerships, and discuss the challenges and the lessons learnt in introducing MDE design and testing techniques into the companies’ traditional V-model process.
