Spain is the second country in Europe with more Erasmus Mundus programmes, after France. The University of Granada is among the four Spanish universities with more Erasmus Mundus programmes (the other 3 being the Technical University of Catalonia, the Technical University of Madrid and the University of Deusto).
The call for scholarships for the course 2010-11 for European and non European students is now open.
The Erasmus Mundus programme was established in 2004, its aim being to enhance the quality of European higher education, to promote the cooperation and mobility between European and non European universities.
The Erasmus Mundus programme, in its Action 1, offers the possibility to choose among 120 master programmes and 13 joint doctoral programmes. To get a grant in these programmes the students must prove their academic excellence to pass a competitive selection process, strengthening one of the main aims of the Erasmus Mundus programme: to recruit the best students and scholars from all over the world.
Among the novelties for the academic course 2010-11, action 1 offers Erasmus Mundus grants to European students from 10.000 € for one-year masters up to 23.000 € for two-year masters, in addition to the grants for non European students given since 2004. These grants try to improve the European universities by recognizing their academic excellence on a worldwide level, to attract highly qualified students from third countries and to encourage the mobility of students and faculty staff in Europe.
At present the following four Erasmus Mundus masters are offered at the University of Granada, all of them being two-year programmes (120 ECTS):
EUROPUBHEALTH (http://www.europubhealth.org): master on public health for those who want to start a professional career in the field of public health, providing the methodology, analysis tools and required knowledge to know the essential aspects of public health.
GEMMA (http://www.ugr.es/local/gemma): master in women’s and gender studies providing quality academic education and professional competences for personnel working or intending to work in the areas of women’s studies, gender studies and equal opportunities.
MUNDUSFOR (http://www.ugr.es/local/mundusfor): master for professionals in training, providing the tools and competencies necessary for the education of professionals involved with teaching in educational institutions, in enterprises, and in community development agencies and associations.
CIMET (http.//www.master-erasmusmundus-color.eu): interdisciplinary master on colour science and technology, encompassing photonics, computer vision and imaging science, computer science and multimedia technology as a mix of relevant theoretical and practical knowledge.
