    Resumen: There have been many approaches towards analyzing and designing enterprises. The prevalent recent approach towards the domain of enterprise is of systemic approach. It is argued that an enterprise is a system, whose elements are human actors. As such, an enterprise falls in the category of social systems. A social system can be best understood through the analysis of communication between the actors, which leads them to enter into and comply with commitments, i.e., eliciting the authorizes, competencies, and responsibilities of actors. This innovative approach in enterprise study is essential and crucial for a number of objectives such as designing information systems to support the business of an enterprise, redesigning current practice of an enterprise, designing large scale software intensive information systems, and, most importantly, to transform an existing enterprise in order to implement new strategic initiatives or business innovations.
    In my presentation, I will discuss a system notion, model notion, and a new notion for enterprise, namely the notion of enterprise ontology. I will emphasize the importance of modeling and simulation. I will also introduce our research intention in regard to enterprise transformation.
    The most relevant audience for this presentation is students and researchers from computing fields, business and management fields, and industrial and system engineering fields.
    Ponente: Joseph Barjis is an Associate at Delft University of Technology (Netherlands). He received his PhD from Moscow Technical University of Communication and Informatics, followed by 4 years of post-Doctoral research at Delft University of Technology. His main research focus is on enterprise engineering, business process modeling and simulation, information systems design, and systems engineering. In addition to his academic and scientific activities, he is the founder of the Association for Information Systems Special Interest Group on Modeling and Simulation – SIGMAS (www.AIS-SIGMAS.org), founder of the International Workshop on Enterprise & Organizational Modeling and Simulation (www.EOMAS.org), member of program committee and editorial board in several international conferences and journals. The offspring of his research resulted in 13 edited conference books, 14 book chapters, over 22 journal articles and editorials, guest editor of 9 special issues, and over 70 papers in fully peer refereed conference proceedings. He has been an invited speaker to a number of national and international forums, general chair of numerous international workshops.
