Seminario: Lidar Polarizing Sensitivity

Ponente: Juan Antonio Bravo Aranda

Título: Lidar Polarizing Sensitivity

Abstract:
Atmospheric-aerosol shape can be determined by means of the  depolarization lidar measurements considering that spherical shape  produce less depolarization than non-spherical one. This effect provides us a tool for typing the atmospheric aerosol. Therefore, lidar depolarization is a very useful tool joined to the rest of lidar measurements. However, calibration of lidar depolarization is very complex due to the polarizing sensitivity of the optical devices that make up the lidar systems. In this seminar, Müller-Stokes formulism is used to understand the polarizing sensitivity of a lidar system and discount its depolarization effect through the combination of
calibration methods and theoretical formulae.
