Abstract: Aerosol particles (particles suspended in the atmosphere) scatter and absorb solar radiation. The wavelength dependency of this interaction can be related to the type of aerosol. In this sense, the wavelength dependency of absorption gives us an idea of the type of absorber, allowing us to determine the source of aerosol (fossil fuel, biomass burning, or mineral dust). Here we present preliminary results with a new instrument deployed in Granada, the aethalometer that measure the absorption of aerosol particles at several wavelengths.
